Glad you're safe. I know that area very well and it's a tough and rugged piece of bush. I do a lot of mountain biking through there and even knowing the area well it's pretty easy to become disoriented but knowing the area helps as you can head towards a road etc that you know of. A couple of tips. Take a paper map with you showing roads and tracks. The GPS screens are small and it's hard to get an idea of the overall area and a safe way out if that's all you have. In that area, the river and gullies are slippery and heavily venerated. Head higher to make easier progress as the Bush is open and easier to walk through. A compass or compass function is good back up as well if you have the paper map.
